What Does a Pain Recovery Coach Do? Beyond Pain Recovery

What Does a Pain Recovery Coach Do? Beyond Pain Recovery

What I love most about being a pain recovery coach… ❤️

It would be so obvious — and of course completely true — to say that witnessing my clients recover from chronic pain is what I love most about my work.

And it absolutely is.

There is something incredibly special about watching someone who has lived with pain, fear and uncertainty for months or years begin to realise that perhaps their future doesn’t have to look like their past.

But actually, it is so much more than the recovery itself.

What I love most is witnessing the whole person begin to come back to life.

For me, pain recovery isn’t simply about teaching someone a set of exercises or techniques and sending them on their way.

I love weaving the pain science and nervous system work together with the coaching side of what I do.

Because often, there is so much more to explore.

We might gently uncover learned behaviours that have developed over years.

The habit of pushing through.

The fear of saying no.

The belief that rest is lazy.

The need to keep everyone else happy.

The constant checking in with the body.

The fear of making plans because “what if I’m in pain?”

The loss of confidence in what the body can actually do.

And then we begin to work with these things — gently.

We explore boundaries.
We practise saying no without guilt.
We build self-compassion.
We challenge old beliefs.
We begin to reframe fear.
We create space for rest, safety and kindness.

And I genuinely believe this gentle nurturing is so important for a nervous system that has spent a long time feeling overwhelmed, threatened or on high alert.

And then something beautiful starts to happen.

I see clients begin to trust themselves again.

They stop organising their entire lives around the possibility of pain.

They start saying yes to things they had previously avoided.

They reconnect with friends.

They return to hobbies.

They laugh more.

They make plans.

They become curious again.

They start doing the things that make them feel like themselves.

And alongside all of this, their relationship with their symptoms can begin to change too.

It isn’t always a straight line. There can be wobbles, setbacks and moments of doubt.

But gradually, I watch confidence replace fear.

Curiosity replace hypervigilance.

Freedom replace restriction.

And life begin to get bigger again.

And honestly?

It is like watching a beautiful, free, choreographed dance play out before your eyes. 💃🏼

Not because I am directing every step.

But because the person in front of me is learning to listen to themselves, trust themselves and move through life in a completely different way.

And when that happens, the body often follows.

That is the part I feel most privileged to witness.

Not simply someone having less pain…

But someone getting their life back.

Someone becoming more confident, more compassionate towards themselves and less afraid of what their body might do.

Someone realising:

“Maybe I can.”

“Maybe I don’t need to be so afraid.”

“Maybe my life doesn’t have to stay this small.”

I never take that privilege for granted.

I feel incredibly grateful that, after my own experience of chronic pain and recovery, I found this work.

Because I know what it feels like to believe that this is just how life is going to be.

And I also know that things can change. ❤️

If you are living with persistent or chronic pain and feel that fear, frustration or uncertainty has started to shape the way you live your life, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

I’d love to hear from you.

Send me a DM or book a friendly discovery call and we can chat through what you’re experiencing, where you are now and whether my approach might be right for you.

There is no pressure and no expectation — just a friendly conversation about what might be possible for you.
