Guilt free relaxation-you should try it!

Before I overcame my back pain, I was the sort of person that was always on the go, I would flit from one thing to the next keeping endlessly busy. I was working full time and had 2 young children, the pace of life was relentless at times. There just never seemed to be enough hours in the day. I didn’t allow myself the down time and rest that my mind and body desperately needed.
As a part of my journey to recovery, I went through a process of really getting to know and better understand myself. I was able to identify that my behaviours were driven by my beliefs. I believed that I always had to put others first- It would be selfish not to. I believed that sitting down and resting was “lazy”. If I was busy, I was in control. Even on holidays, the perfect time to stop, I found it hard to really let go.
With work and perseverance, I have learnt a valuable lesson, I now know that rest is essential if you are to heal. That doing nothing is exactly what you need when you start to feel overwhelmed. That giving yourself space and time to relax and unwind is the best tonic of all.
I recently went on holiday; I sat on the beach, and I watched the waves. I listened to them coming and going and I felt the sun’s warmth on my skin. I felt no guilt for stopping. In that moment it was just me, the beach and the waves.
I stopped and I was free.
This is waiting for you.
