This week Vibrant is giving you some simple, top tips to naturally help ease anxiety and pain. By boosting your body’s happy hormones (endorphins) you will be able to move towards a more balanced and harmonious life.
Why do we need more endorphins? Endorphins are the body’s natural painkillers. Released by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland in response to pain or stress, they both relieve pain and create a general feeling of well-being.
Breathe- Notice where your breath is landing. When in a state of stress, it is more likely that you will breathe more rapidly and into your chest. Try to move your breath down into your belly and breathe more slowly. Deep breathing and relaxation activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which sends a signal to your brain to tell the anxious part that you’re safe and that you don’t need to use the fight, flight, or freeze response. Check your breath regularly throughout the day.
Nature-Increased time spent outdoors, is a free and easy way to calm an overactive nervous system.
Social Butterfly!-Isolation can be a cause of stress, as a species we are naturally social creatures. Although you may not always feel like it, spending more time with family, friends or attending clubs and groups can be welcome relief from any unhealthy anxious thought patterns and your current symptoms.
Laughter- A great immune booster, find the lighter side of life and find a good old excuse to chuckle away!
Smile- The physical act of smiling releases your happy hormones, now give me your best grin 😊
Exercise- Although for some people, this might be a challenge at first or seem impossible but starting some exercise albeit slowly and gently is a fantastic way to get your endorphins flowing more freely.
Healthy Eating- By increasing the number of natural foods you eat-your 5 a day plus, seeds, grains, nuts and pulses will give a fabulous boost to your entire system.
